Peace Hotel
a modern identity built from 1920s elegance and structural rhythm.
Project Description
This rebranding of the Peace Hotel draws from the architectural geometry and ornate elegance of 1920s Shanghai.

Inspired by Art Deco symmetry, vintage currency frames, and structural arches, the visual system merges modern clarity with nostalgic richness.

Curved lines, enclosed grids, and decorative motifs echo the building’s history while reimagining its identity for a contemporary audience.

It is a dialogue between old Shanghai’s cosmopolitan glamour and today’s minimal aesthetic precision.

HOTEL INTRODUCTION

Built in 1929 by Sir Victor Sassoon, the Peace Hotel stands as a cultural and political landmark in Shanghai’s modern history.

Originally named the Cathay Hotel, it hosted world leaders, celebrities, and elite gatherings, symbolizing the city's rise as an international metropolis. Its “national suites” reflected Shanghai’s status as a crossroads of East and West, while its role in diplomacy and business cemented its influence in early 20th-century politics and finance. After a full restoration, it reopened in 2010 as the Fairmont Peace Hotel—preserving its legacy as a witness to the city’s transformation.
